Packing Tips

Whether you wrap it yourself or have us do it, Fielder Postal Center store sells everything you need, including corrugated boxes, mailing tubes, padded envelopes, bubble wrap, poly fill, tape and other packing needs.

If you are a do-it-yourself packer, use these tips to ensure the safe arrival of your packages!

  • Make sure your box is large enough to put sufficient packaging around all sides of the item(s). 2-5 inches depending upon the weight and fragility of the item(s). Some items may need to be double boxed.
  • Use a sturdy box with flaps intact. Our boxes are between 200-275 lb. Bursting Test.
  • Bubble Wrap all breakable, fragile, or glass items.
  • Use enough cushioning between items (bubble wrap or polyfill), to ensure the item(s) do not shift when you shake the box. Bubble Wrap and Poly fill are used to absorb shock and vibration during transit. Newspaper, clothing, blankets, and pillows are not proper cushioning materials.
  • Parcel must be able to withstand a 4-foot drop.
  • Use strong tape that is designed for shipping.
  • Cover sharp or protruding edges with taped corrugated panels or pads.
  • Don't pack heavy items with delicate items.

If you don't feel a parcel is properly prepared for transit, ask us for assistance. If a parcel is not packed properly, the carrier can refuse to honor a damage claim.

Note: These are just general packing guidelines. If you need to package an item and require advice, please ask us for assistance. All parcels we package meet our carriers' packaging guidelines.
